JAMMU: Secretary Higher Education Department, Talat Parvez Rohilla today declared open Sports Festival 2020 organized by the Higher Education Department here.
Around 2000 students of 21 Colleges of Jammu and Samba districts are participating in the Sports Festival. The event would witness contests in Kho-Kho, Kabaddi, Volley ball, Cricket, Table Tennis, Badminton, Tug of war, Football, Hockey etc.
Among others, Director Colleges, Yasin Ahmed Shah; Deputy Secretary Higher Education, Vikas Bhagati; principals and staff from various Colleges and students were present at the inaugural function.
The Secretary appreciated organizers for holding the event in a befitting manner and providing budding sportspersons ample opportunity to showcasing their talent and skill.
Addressing the participants, Director Colleges said that sports activities have a profound and significant impact on the physical, social and mental development of the youth. He urged the students to participate with more frequency in such events.
He also urged the parents to encourage their wards to choose sports as their career.
Later, a friendly cricket match of 3 overs was played between Secretary 11 and Director 11.
