Ajmer, National Conference President and former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Dr. Farooq Abdullah on Friday visited the Dargah of Gareeb Nawaz Hazrat Khwaja Moinuddin Chishti (RA) at Ajmer and paid for sustained peace in Kashmir.
Paying obeisance at the shrine, Dr. Farooq Abdullah said prayed for the victims of the unrest in Kashmir and prayed for sustained peace and stability in the State and the region, said a party spokesman.
“Gareeb Nawaz Hazrat Khwaja Moiunuddin Chishti (RA) was a beacon of spirituality, kindness and amity and his teachings continue to guide us towards mutual brotherhood, spiritual atonement and the pursuit of kindness. I prayed for Kashmir and for the entire region as we are passing through a very tumultuous phase,” said Abdullah while talking to reporters in Ajmer.
Responding to certain questions by the media, Abdullah condemned the use of brutal forces and PSAs against the youth of the State and said such repressive measures would compound the already fragile situation in the State and further alienated the youth.
“Pellets should be banned immediately and the Government should engage with the youth rather than arresting them and imposing PSAs on them,” said Abdullah.
Abdullah said he hoped the New Year would bring tidings of peace and prosperity for the State.
